Don’t let the blame game cancer kill its host: Your business or career

Most recently, we launched our social enterprise company, Mamávida. It is an exciting time for me personally, and our wonderful young team. Our business is fortunate to have each and everyone of our team members. They are driven by Mamávida’s vision and the collective opportunity we share with all stakeholders.

Employees have two jobs: Perform and improve performance. Although most leaders focus significant time on getting employees to do their job, the lack of time spent on improving performance leads to unintended consequences.

Paradigms are critically important rules and regulations that tell you how to successfully solve problems. Paradigms act as filters that screen data that enters your mind. When data enters that does not match an existing paradigm, you try and distort the data to fit your rules.

If I asked a business owner or C-level leader if their business has financial statements, they would respond, of course we do. If I asked them to show me their formal process for measuring employee engagement and innovation, at least 95% would respond we don’t measure that.

The need for business leaders to facilitate adaptation to a rapidly changing world is critical. Although many leaders are working hard to adapt, it is impossible for them to do it on their own. Joining forces with their most valuable asset, their people, is the logical solution.
